The Omaha City Council is looking for a new chief of staff.
A job posting went online Friday for the position currently held by Warren Weaver, who will retire July 19.
Internal and external candidates will be considered for the position. Council President Pete Festersen and council members Ben Gray and Aimee Melton will oversee the search for Weaver's replacement. The process will take about 90 days.
Festersen said finding a qualified replacement for Weaver, who has held the position since 2005, is a priority for the council.
“This is an important position that facilitates the work of city government,” he said in a statement. “The City Council is committed to an open and transparent process that successfully identities the best candidate to serve the taxpayers for many years to come.”
Jim Dowding, another council staff member, will serve as interim chief of staff until the council makes a decision.
Weaver's 2011 salary, according to city records collected by the World-Herald, was more than $100,000.
