Kevin L. Goodwin, 53, was arrested Monday afternoon after he attempted to cut downed power lines and claimed that he worked for the Omaha Public Power District.
Goodwin was cutting a wire in front of Earnestine Young's house near 24th Street and Laurel Avenue with bolt cutters when police arrived.
Young, 69, said she had called OPPD officials to inform them about the hazard. She then saw Goodwin cutting the power line. He told her he worked for OPPD, even though he doesn't. Goodwin was wearing ordinary clothes and had garden sheers, scissors, pliers and other tools that anyone could buy at the hardware store, she said.
“I'm not sure what he was going to do with the wires, but he wanted the wires,” Young said.
Goodwin told a police officer that his mother lives at Young's house and that he was cutting the power line so she could get her car out of the driveway. Young told police that she did not know the man.
