Omaha police say that 47-year-old Bellevue bicyclist was seriously injured Monday night when he was struck by a car south of downtown Omaha.
Officers determined that the bicyclist, Robert Nikunen, was northbound in the southbound lane of 13th Street near the curb when a 2007 Hyundai SUV driven by Maira Oregel, 33, of Omaha made a left turn heading west on Center Street. Oregel's SUV struck the bicyclist.
Nikunen, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to Creighton University Medical Center in serious condition, suffering from a broken hip. Officials said his injuries were not life-threatening.
Police said speed and alcohol were not contributing factors in the accident, which occurred about 6:30 p.m..
