WAYNE, Neb. — Wayne State College men’s basketball coach Paul Combs resigned Saturday to take the same position at Carroll University in Waukesha, Wisc.
Combs compiled a 54-58 record in four years at Wayne State. This past season, he led the Wildcats to a 17-12 record. The 17 wins were the most by a Wayne State men’s basketball team since the 1999-2000 season, when the Wildcats went 26-6 in Greg McDermott’s final season at the college.
Combs said being closer to family was “a very important factor” in his decision to accept the Carroll job. He and his wife have three young children.
Wayne State Athletic Director Mike Powicki said the school would begin a national search immediately for its next coach.
