Omaha City Councilman Garry Gernandt was released from the hospital around noon Friday, two days after suffering chest pains at a press conference.
The hospital did not release details about the issue that had prompted the hospitalization, but Creighton University Medical Center Kathy Niver said the councilman had been upgraded to good condition early Friday morning. No surgery was needed, she said.
“He was feeling and looking a lot better,” she said.
Gernandt had just arrived for a press conference at Spring Lake Park Wednesday when the pain started.
Gernandt started walking toward the crowd gathered for a presentation on a sewer project grant and then abruptly turned around. He walked back over to his car and then called to a friend for help.
Gernandt was loaded into an ambulance, and the press conference as canceled.
