North Platte and Hall County officials have pledged money toward their communities’ bids to host a new Central Nebraska Veterans Home.
The state is accepting bids from would-be host communities until June 11. Four communities have announced plans to bid: Grand Island, Kearney, Hastings and North Platte.
The $120 million project would replace the current veterans home, which has been in Grand Island for 126 years. The home would house 225 veterans and employ 350 people.
On Tuesday, the North Platte City Council unanimously approved chipping in $4 million toward the project from two city economic development funds.
The same day, the Hall County Board pledged $300,000 toward Grand Island’s campaign to keep the Veterans Home. The seven-member board voted unanimously to allocate $75,000 of keno funds per year for four years.
Last week, the Grand Island City Council voted unanimously to commit $3 million toward the project.
