DES MOINES — A driver rescued by officers after he became trapped in the cab of his truck in a flooded creek has been released from the hospital.
Dwayne Michael’s son, Michael, said his dad was released Thursday night after being treated for bruised ribs, cuts and scrapes. The 70-year-old from Granger was home Friday.
Three officers jumped into 12 feet of water early Thursday to rescue Michael after his truck veered off Interstate 80 about 30 miles east of Des Moines and came to rest with the cab submerged in Prairie Creek.
Baxter Police Officer Joe Bartello swam underwater and through the truck windshield to lead Michael out.
The family is expressing its gratitude to Bartello, Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremy Burdess and Newton Officer Adam Herman. — AP
