Bobby K. Wallace
A domestic disturbance Saturday night near 33rd and Pratt Streets in Omaha ended with a woman dead and her husband booked into the Douglas County Jail on suspicion of murder.
LaVern N. Eubanks, 34, became Omaha's 12th homicide of 2013 when she died of stab wounds at the Creighton University Medical Center.
Officer Michael Pecha, a police spokesman, said Bobby K. Wallace Sr., 35, was arrested on suspicion of second-
degree murder, use of a weapon to commit a felony, and domestic disturbing the peace.
Police were called at 7:30 p.m. to 3321 Pratt St., where they stopped Wallace's attack on Eubanks, Pecha said. Wallace was taken into custody and Eubanks was rushed to the hospital, where she died of her wounds.
Wallace's sister, Lynnette Johnson, said the couple had a tumultuous relationship and had just recently gotten back together. Johnson said she didn't know what prompted the incident Saturday.
“My brother has mental problems,” Johnson said. “I don't know what they were going through, but he is very troubled.”
The couple had two children younger than 13, and Eubanks had two children before she married Wallace in 2006, Johnson said. Family members are caring for the children now, she said.
“My brother was the one who took care of all the kids,” Johnson said.
According to court records, Wallace and Eubanks each had filed a protection order against the other. Both requests were dismissed by Douglas County judges.
At the time of his arrest Saturday, Wallace was awaiting trial after pleading not guilty to a May 13 incident in which he was charged with damage to property and trespassing, both misdemeanors. He is also awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to driving under suspension.
In 1995 Wallace was sentenced to one to two years in jail after pleading no contest to assault on a police officer.
