LINCOLN — Bayard’s Trae Blanco is in a five-way tie for 13th after the opening round of the Class C state golf tournament at Lincoln’s Highlands Golf Course.
Blanco carded an 80 in Tuesday’s first day of action. He is eight strokes over par and tied with Bishop Neumann’s Haley Thiele, Laurel-Concord’s Jamy McCoy, Cameron Bancroft of Valentine, and Elgin-Pope John’s Nicklaus Heithoff. Plainview’s Sam Meuret leads the field with a 68.
Kimball’s Henry Heeg is also in solid position after the first round. Heeg is in a seven-way tie for 27th after shooting an 84.
Both Heeg and Blanco are competing in the tournament individually.
Gibbon leads the team scoring after the first round with a 328. Laurel-Concord is one stroke behind with 329, while David City is third with 332.
At the Class D state tournament at Meadowlark Hills Golf Course in Kearney, Hay Springs’ Regg Strotheide had a solid first round Tuesday by finishing in a three-way tie for 19th with an 89.
Strotheide is only 11 strokes behind individual leader Garrett Ring of Alma, who carded a 78.
Creek Valley’s Lane Godfrey is tied for 26th after opening with a 93.
Potter-Dix’s Kyle Gorsuch and Crawford’s Colton Micheel also had good first rounds. Gorsuch is in a four-way tie for 33rd place after shooting 94, while Micheel is in a six-way tie for 37th after carding a 96.
Also competing individually is Garden County’s Brandon Lightfritz. He shot a 127 and is 97th.
Hemingford is competing in the tournament as a team after winning the district championship last week. The Bobcats opened with a 457 and sit 14th.
Jacob Horstman led Hemingford’s charge with a 97. He is in a tie for 43rd. Also for the Bobcats, Brady Horstman is in a tie for 71st with a 109, Colt Foster is in a tie for 90th with a 120, Tyler Huddle is 99th with a 131, and Vance Orr is in 102nd with a 147.
Thayer Central leads the team race with a 347. Bancoft-Rosalie is second with 367.
