Weekend roundup: May 10 - 12
By Andrea Kszystyniak // World-Herald Staff Writer

The sun is finally making its return to our fair city. Crawl out of bed, throw on something decent and get out of this seasonally-affected funk you're probably in. It's spring and it's time to start acting like it.

FRIDAY

VietNam with Black Pus, Plack Blague

8 p.m., $12

Slowdown, 729 N. 14th St.

This is a rock show not to be missed. Brooklyn band Vietnam hits the stage with Brian Chippendale's new project, Black Pus. If you like your music loud, dirty, noisy and wacky, get out to Slowdown.

Screening of 'Grey Gardens'

6:30 p.m.

Film Streams, 1340 Mike Fahey St.

Cult-classic documentary “Grey Gardens” follows Jackie Kennedy Onassis' wacky relatives, Big Edie and Little Edie, around their home in East Hampton, N.Y. The two are recluses, living in a mansion that is crumbling around them. If you've never seen “Grey Gardens” before or seen it a billion times, you need to be at this screening.

SATURDAY

Hawleywood Salon's featured presentation of Mario Ink

8 p.m., $5

House of Loom, 1012 S. 10th St.

Chicago-based Mario Ink will body paint live as internationally renowned techno DJ Woody McBride spins. Aaron Lee and Brent Crampton will warm up the floor, playing electro and house.

Omaha Farmers Market

8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

11th and Jackson Streets

This is the farmer's market's second week open. Stop by, meet local farmers and stock up on some fresh veggies. If the Old Market is a trek, Aksarben Village holds a market on Sunday mornings, starting at 9 a.m.

Lucky Bucket 7k Trail Run

Packet pickup, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m; race kicks off at 5 p.m.

Registration: $45 until Friday, 11:49 p.m.; $50 day of race

Eugene T. Mahoney State Park, 28500 W Park Hwy.

If you're in shape and up to a last-minute fun run, don't miss this 7K. Lucky Bucket beer is offered along the course and at the after party. Just make sure you're of legal drinking age.

SATURDAY AND SUNDAY

Nebraska Renaissance Faire

Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Bellevue Berry & Pumpkin Ranch, 11001 S. 48th St., Papillion

Head back in time at the Nebraska Renaissance Faire. Watch live combat battles, jam out to some celtic music and practice your knife tossing. By the end of your trip, you may not want to return to 2013.

“Transcendence,” a sci-fi thriller about an attempt to meld the human mind with technology, falls far short of transcendence. So far short I had to fight off sleep.
