CLAREMORE, Okla. — Rogers State scored five straight runs to rally past Midland University for an 8-4 victory Thursday in the opening round of the NAIA baseball tournament.
“I am proud of how we competed today,” Midland coach Jordan Bischel said. “Many of our young men played well on a big stage today. Ultimately we issued too many free bases and Rogers State deserves credit for getting big hits and taking advantage. We are excited to continue in the tournament tomorrow.”
Midland came back from a 3-0 deficit and led 4-3 before the Hillcats scored three in the sixth and two in the seventh.
Vinnie Orsi, a junior from Omaha Gross, led the Warriors, going 3 for 4 with one run and one RBI. Nate Bence, a senior from Millard North, went 2 for 4 with one run and Dylan Steyer, a freshman from Millard West, was also 2 for 4 with one RBI.
Dylan Stockton got the start, going 5.1 innings and allowing six runs, five earned, on six hits while striking out four. Rob Wheeler came in relief, pitching 1.2 innings while allowing two runs while Josh Rolls tossed one inning.
Midland will play Bellevue at 11 a.m. Friday.
