Firefighters descended on a smoky nail shop fire Thursday morning at a midtown Omaha strip mall.
The blaze began about 8:45 a.m. at Martini Nails & Spa at the 74 Pacific Plaza mall, just west of 72nd and Pacific Streets.
Tim McCaw of the Omaha Fire Department said firefighters had the blaze under control about an hour after it began. A cause for the fire had not been determined by late morning, he said, and no injuries were reported.
The blaze began in the rear of the shop, McCaw said, which sustained heavy smoke and fire damage. It was contained to the rear of the business, he added, and some nearby shops sustained smoke damage, including WineStyles Wine & Gifts, next door to the east.
“Our customers called us and said we were on fire,'' said Jen Syphers, who manages WineStyles. “I was St. Margaret Mary going to Mass when the calls started coming in.''
Lighthouse Pizza co-owner Scott Egermayer said he was hoping his business, two doors to the east of Martini, didn't sustain heavy damage.
“I can't tell if we got any damage right now,'' he said. “But we probably got some smoke damage.''
The strip mall contains seven businesses and it has about four or five unoccupied bays.
