Champions Tour golfer Peter Jacobsen will stay an extra day in Omaha after the U.S. Senior Open to be the celebrity pro at Marian High School’s annual fundraiser golf tournament July 15 at Indian Creek.
Jacobsen has a spot in the Senior Open by finishing in the top 25 — a tie for 17th — last year. He also is a commentator for Golf Channel and NBC.
City junior clinic signup underway
Registration for the Omaha Junior Golf Clinic continues through May 31. The free clinics for boys and girls ages 8 to 14, which have been sponsored by the city and The World-Herald since 1951, will be June 10, 11 and 12 at Johnny Goodman Golf Course and Schmidley’s Driving Range, 4700 N. 120th St.
Clinic participation is required to play in the city junior tournament, which has qualifying on June 24 and the finals on June 27. To register for the clinics, call the city golf office at 402-444-5953 between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. weekdays.
Knolls hosts city open house on Saturday
The renovated Knolls Golf Course clubhouse will host the city golf division’s annual open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Two clinics will be offered. From 1:30 to 2 p.m., Pete Hagen from Goodman and Joe Wiegand from Benson Park will provide driving tips on the first tee. A putting clinic from 2:30 to 3 p.m. will be taught by Terry Heskett of Elmwood Park and new Knolls pro Dave Malone.
