It’s understandable that Nebraska’s rural school districts and big-city school districts fight hard for their interests whenever the Nebraska Legislature debates how to distribute K-12 school aid. Feelings grew so heated recently that the Legislature had a near-meltdown on the issue because lawmakers couldn’t reach agreement. To the Legislature’s credit, a hard-fought compromise finally was reached. On Tuesday, the issue comes before lawmakers again. The compromise doesn’t sit well with either side, but it would make no sense to jettison the agreement and unleash another round of chaos. The compromise needs to move forward.
