FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Malcolm White singled home Markus Kalber in the ninth inning to give IPFW a 6-5 come-from-behind win against the University of Nebraska at Omaha on Sunday.
With the game tied at 4 after eight innings, the Mavericks took a one-run lead in the ninth when senior Ryan Keele doubled down the left-field line to score Alex Mortensen, a sophomore from Millard North.
IPFW (20-23, 8-12 Summit League) then scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to earn the win.
Brandon Soat led off the ninth with a double. Pinch runner Evan VanSumeren moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Kalber’s single. After a walk, Kalber advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring on White’s game-ending hit.
For UNO, Keele finished 3 for 4 with three runs scored, and Cole Gruber went 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI. Senior Cory Buckley extended his team-leading hitting streak to 15 games.
Kalber led the Mastodons, going 3 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Connor Lawhead (3-4) picked up the win. Senior Derek Landis (0-2) took the loss, giving up a run on two hits.
The Mavs return to action at 6:05 p.m. Tuesday, playing at Iowa in their final nonconference game.
