DES MOINES — The Creighton softball team dropped a doubleheader at Drake on Tuesday, falling 5-4 and 9-1.
The losses dropped Creighton (27-16, 13-6) into a tie for first in the Missouri Valley Conference standings with Drake (28-19, 14-7).
In the opener, Creighton trailed 5-4 entering the seventh inning. The Jays loaded the bases, but Drake reliever Jordan Gronewold recorded three strikeouts to get out of the jam.
Ellen Homan tripled, drew four walks and scored three runs to lead the Jays, while Amy Baker added two hits and an RBI
Gronewold hit a grand slam for the Bulldogs and held Creighton to four hits to earn the win in the nightcap.
Creighton closes the regular season at home this weekend against Wichita State. The Jays will honor their three seniors between games of a Saturday doubleheader that begins at noon. The teams will wrap up the series with a single game at noon Sunday.
