KEARNEY, Neb. — The University of Nebraska at Kearney golf team has been selected to play in an NCAA regional for the second straight year.
The Lopers will play in the Central/Midwest Regional May 6 to 8 in Kenosha, Wis. The 54-hole event is being held at The Club at Strawberry Creek and hosted by Wisconsin-Parkside.
A committee uses a variety of criteria to select the regional field. Eight at-large spots are available from the Central with the MIAA (Central Oklahoma) and NSIC (St. Cloud State) tournament champions receiving automatic bids.
Overall, 80 teams and 32 individuals participate in four regional tournaments. The top three teams and top two individuals not with a team from each regional advance to the NCAA Championships May 20 to 24 in Hershey, Pa.
In previous trips to super regionals, UNK finished second (2003), third (2002 and 2008), fifth (2004, 2005, 2006), sixth (2007) and 19th (2012). No Loper squad or individual has made it to the NCAA D2 Championships.
