An online posting that led to increased police security at Ralson High School wasn't a real threat — it was rumor, said the Ralston police chief.
Chief Ron Murtaugh said a comment surfaced on a social media site that caused some people to feel threatened.
His department sent five extra officers to the school Wednesday morning to beef up the usual security provided by a school resource officer and a couple security guards.
Ralston Superintendent Mark Adler assured the community that the extra officers would be on school grounds at the start and end of each school day through the end of the week.
But investigators have since determined that no danger exists. Murtaugh said his officers haven't traced the source of the rumor, but continue to investigate.
While five additional officers aren't warranted, Murtaugh said, officers will continue to stop by the school during the day to monitor the situation and to allay concerns among parents and students.
