LINCOLN — The Nebraska tennis and golf teams are headed to Big Ten tournaments this weekend.
The men’s tennis team will compete in Columbus, Ohio, from Thursday to Sunday. The Huskers will face Michigan State on Thursday at 1:30 and Minnesota on Friday if they win.
The Huskers finished 10-14 for the second consecutive year.
The women will play the Penn State-Minnesota winner Friday at 1 p.m. in Bloomington, Ind. They’re led by Mary Weatherholt, who went undefeated in Big Ten play (11-0 singles, 9-0 doubles with partner Patricia Veresova). She’s ranked No. 11 in singles nationally and No. 3 in doubles with Veresova.
She earned Nebraska’s female student athlete of the year and, with a 3.873 GPA, helped her squad earn the Herman Award for the team with the highest team GPA (3.793) out of all of the Nebraska sports.
The women’s golf team is traveling to French Lick, Ind., for the three-day 54-hole tournament that starts Friday at 8 a.m. at the Donald Ross Course on the French Lick Resort. Freshman Cassie Deeg will lead the Huskers after three top-20 finishes.
The men also will be competing in French Lick but at the Pete Dye Golf Course. Matt Record is NU’s No. 1 player, with a 74.54 stroke average in 26 rounds.
