MACOMB, Ill. — The UNO baseball team picked up its fifth straight win, defeating Western Illinois 11-6 in 10 innings Friday afternoon at Boyer Stadium.
The league-leading Mavericks improved to 11-15 overall and 5-0 in Summit League play.
In the top of the 10th, the Mavericks capitalized on four Leatherneck errors and added four hits to put up seven runs.
First baseman Cory Buckley led the way for UNO, finishing 3 for 5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Brett Bass, Alex Mortensen, Ryan Keele, Connor Messinger and Cole Gruber added two hits apiece.
Reliever Anthony Falcone (2-0) earned the win, throwing four scoreless innings. He gave up three hits and a walk while striking out two. UNO starter Tyler Fox went five innings, allowing four runs — three earned — off eight hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
Mason Pingel (1-3) took the loss for the Leathernecks (7-22, 1-4), surrendering seven runs — two earned — on three hits and a walk in two-thirds innings of work in the 10th.
UNO returns to action Saturday at noon in a doubleheader at Western Illinois.
