The Nebraska Board of Education will seek a national firm to help its search for the next state commissioner of education.
Commissioner Roger Breed said in March that he would retire June 30.
Breed, 63, has been commissioner since 2009.
The commissioner is the chief executive of the Nebraska Education Department and serves at the pleasure of the eight-member state board. The commissioner enforces state education policies and rules.
The board plans to interview representatives of three search firms May 6 and select a firm during its monthly business meeting May 7.
