NIOBRARA, Neb. — Mother Nature had a hand in delaying determining the results of Tuesday's vote for Niobrara's $9.95 million school bond.
A Niobrara school official said Wednesday morning that the Knox County sheriff picked up all the ballots Tuesday after the polls closed at 8 p.m. and delivered them to the courthouse in Center amid bad weather conditions.
The Knox County Courthouse and the Niobrara Public Schools were closed Wednesday because of weather.
Plans are to count the votes Thursday when the courthouse reopens, the school official said.
The proposed bond issue, if approved, would finance the costs of constructing a new high school; renovating and improving the existing elementary building, gym building and bus barn; and acquiring and installing furniture and equipment.
