Nebraska's first Dunkin' Donuts will hold a grand opening in late May.
The franchise is coming soon to a new West Cornhusker Plaza on the southeast corner of 72nd Street and Cornhusker Road.
Bryce Bares, president of QSR Services LLC, said the date has not been finalized, but work on the donut and coffee shop has shifted to installing equipment and hiring. He said a general manager and eight shift managers have been hired, and the franchise anticipates hiring about 80 more employees to deal with the throngs of people expected when the doors open.
“Dunkin's experience in other markets is the stores kind of open to crazy volumes,” Bares said. “Once we have all the systems in place and working, we're going to be ready to set the opening.”
A mix of part-time, full-time and seasonal employees will be hired later this month as preparations continue. A job fair will be held Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. and Monday from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Sarpy Community YMCA at 1111 E. First St. in Papillion. More information on the positions, including an application, can be found at www.qsrnebraska.com.
Bares said the interior work for the Dunkin' Donuts shop is nearly finished. Equipment is being installed, and workers must still put up the signs — expected to happen this week if the weather permits — and finish paving and striping the parking lot. Two other businesses are expected to open up beside the shop later this summer. Bares said the middle bay will be a physician's clinic called Eye Specialists/Specialty Optical, and QSR is in “late stage negotiations” with a tenant for the last bay.
