LOGAN, Iowa — Mayor Randy Fetter has announced his resignation.
Fetter told the City Council on Monday that he will leave office at noon May 15. The timing is to allow sufficient time for a special election.
He said the decision was “a tough one,” but recent times have been “pretty trying.”
Fetter had been absent from recent council meetings.
Mike Foutch, serving as mayor pro-tem in Fetter's absence, vetoed a city-ordinance-mandated resolution last month that would have paid a newly hired clerk, Vicki Schroder of Woodbine, $17 per hour.
The veto is the latest twist in a saga that started last July, when City Administrator Angela Winther and City Attorney Joe Lauterbach were fired.
Schroder had been hired to replace Winther, though not without objections.
Since the firings of Winther and Lauterbach, the council has been divided over what to do about cleanup of Logan's Milliman Park, which abuts the property of City Councilman Skip Johnson.
