The person found dead last month after a fire was extinguished in an elevator inside a downtown Omaha building was a man, a fire official said Friday.
It was the first time authorities had released the victim’s gender.
The man was found March 14 inside a vacant building at 1802 Dodge St.
The cause and origin of the fire was still under investigation, said Battalion Chief Tim McCaw, a spokesman for the department. Fire Department investigators are working with Omaha police homicide detectives to determine the cause of death, he said.
