Memo to Omahans: dig out your umbrellas.
A loosely forming storm system now near the Pacific Northwest is expected to bring rain to the Omaha metro area next week -- and snow to western Nebraska -- according to Mark Paquette, a meteorologist with AccuWeather Inc., the World-Herald's private weather consultant.
Omaha is likely to see between half an inch and an inch of rain, mostly Wednesday, as a low pressure system moves toward Kansas City, Paquette said. There's also a chance of light, non-accumulating snow flurries Wednesday in the Omaha area.
Paquette said western Nebraska is expected to bear the brunt of the snowfall, with up to six inches accumulating.
In the meantime, Nebraska fans traveling to Lincoln for today's 2 p.m. spring football game could see some rain showers this morning and early afternoon, but the sun's likely to come out later today, with temperatures even reaching 70 degrees, Paquette said.
