Becca Changstrom delivered in her first at-bat of the season.
Creighton’s ace pitcher drove a double to right-center field in the bottom of the eighth inning on Saturday, giving the Bluejays a 6-5 win over Bradley in the second game of a doubleheader.
Creighton (20-11, 6-2) maintained a half-game lead over Bradley in the Missouri Valley standings. Bradley defeated the Bluejays 3-2 in Saturday’s first game at the CU Sports Complex.
Changstrom, a junior from Lincoln Southwest, struck out 10 but took the loss in the opener. Bradley scored all of its runs in the sixth inning, scoring on an infield single, a catcher’s interference call and a bases-loaded walk.
Creighton senior Amy Baker hit her 53rd home run to give her 155 career RBIs, two shy of the MVC record. In the seventh, Alexis Cantu delivered an RBI single to make the score 3-2, but the Jays could pull no closer.
In the nightcap, Ellen Homan, a junior from Omaha Skutt, hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning to tie the game at 5.
Changstrom, who relieved Cantu to record the final out of the seventh inning, retired Bradley in order in the eighth.
After an intentional walk brought Changstrom to the plate, she lined a pitch over the second baseman’s glove to score Homan.
The teams conclude their three-game series at noon Sunday at the CU Sports Complex.
