CoOportunity Health of West Des Moines has received permission to sell health insurance in Nebraska.
The Nebraska Department of Insurance issued the authorization about a week after its Iowa counterpart approved the sale of policies in Iowa.
CoOportunity Health plans to sell coverage in the two states' new health care marketplaces, formerly called insurance exchanges, under the federal Affordable Care Act, as well as in the private health insurance market. Sales will begin when the marketplaces open Oct. 1 for coverage that would take effect Jan. 1.
Under the federal health care act, the nonprofit cooperative received a $112 million loan last year, to be repaid within five years, for startup costs and initial capital.
