If you're a University of Nebraska-Lincoln student and talking to someone you like leaves you tongue-tied, do we have a Facebook page for you.
UNL Crushes, launched last week, gives you an avenue to tell someone you're infatuated without actually talking to them. You can simply send a message to the UNL Crushes Facebook page and the service will do it for you.
The page got around 500 likes on its first day. Since then, it has exploded; more than 1,600 people have confessed their secret crushes to the UNL Crushes Facebook inbox and 90,000 unique users have visited the page. The team behind the endeavor — all anonymous — take turns going through submissions and deciding which ones are appropriate for posting. You also can find it on Twitter, @UNLCrushes7.
Messages cover all sorts of crushes. Some users confess their love for people they've seen in passing and don't actually know. Others admit their captivation with someone in particular, for example: "You are a beautiful girl with amazing eyes who I wish I could have had even a remote chance with." Some students simply show their appreciation for the campus cat or actor Emma Watson.
The person who had the idea for UNL Crushes has yet to use the service.
"I'm kind of old-fashioned," the founder said, requesting that we not use gender. "My parents taught me it's better to say it in person."
