CHAPPELL — Burns’ Shana Wilcoxson and Minatare’s Andres Mendoza both won four individual events at the Tri State Invitational on Thursday in Chappell.
Wilcoxson placed first in the high jump (5 feet), pole vault (9-6), long jump (16-8 ½), and triple jump (36-10 ½). Her impressive feats helped the Burns girls win the team title with 110.5 points. Kimball finished second with 91 and Bridgeport was third with 90.
Mendoza was just as impressive. He placed first in the long jump (20-1 ½), triple jump (41-8), 100-meter dash (11.0 seconds), and 200 (22.4). Mendoza’s accomplishments helped the Minatare boys to a fourth-place finish in the team race with 64 points. Paxton won the team title with 143, Burns was second with 90, and Bridgeport finished third with 78.
There were two other double individual-event winners in the girls division. Burns’ Ashley Turner ran to first-place finishes in the 100 (12.7) and 200 (27.1), while Bayard’s Jessi Smith won the 1,600 (5:57.3) and 100 high hurdles (16.5).
Other local individual-event winners were Bridgeport’s Olga Aguilar in the shot put (32-6), Leyton’s Kassandra Harris in the discus (102-3 ¾), Kimball’s Laura Flores in the 800 (2:37.1), Banner County’s Amanda Harrison in the 3,200 (13:31.0), and Kimball’s Madison Biesecker in the 300 low hurdles (49.6).
Bayard’s Breanna Korell, Miah Vera, Sini Garcia, and Smith teamed up to win the 4x100 relay in a time of 52.5.
The 4x400 relay was won in a time of 4:28.9 by Kimball’s Biesecker, Mikayla Fiehtner, Alisha Hunsaker, and Shelby Vogel.
Bridgeport’s Courtney Beyer, Brooke Schneider, Kassidy Kildow, and Marissa Widener teamed up to win the 4x800 relay in a time of 11:31.8.
There were also two double individual-event winners in the boys division. Bridgeport’s Cody Franklin won the 1,600 (4:53.0) and the 3,200 (10:18.0), while Burns’ Paden Wilson prevailed in the 110 high hurdles (16.6) and 300 intermediate hurdles (45.0).
Other local individual-event winners were Burns’ Colton Wright in the high jump (5-10) and Bridgeport’s Travis Albertz in the discus (135-0 ¼).
Burns’ Wyatt Berg, Taylor Kirkbride, Rowan Fichtner, and Wilson teamed up to win the 4x400 relay in a time of 3:48.7.
Paxton won both the 4x100 and 4x800 relays.
