SIDNEY, Neb. — A truck driver facing charges for his role in a fatal crash in western Nebraska that killed a Maryland family is set to stand trial later this year.
A judge on Wednesday set a Sept. 9 trial date for Josef Slezak, of River Grove, Ill.
The crash on Interstate 80 last year killed Christopher and Diana Schmidt of Gaithersburg, Md., along with their two young children and unborn son.
Authorities said Slezak had been driving for too long when he crashed into the back of Christopher Schmidt's car. The impact pushed Christopher Schmidt's car into a second car that was carrying his wife and children.
Slezak is charged with four counts of manslaughter, four counts of vehicular homicide and one count of vehicular homicide of an unborn child. — AP
