NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — The state's first tornado of the year hit in a rural area of western Nebraska, but officials do not believe the twister hit any buildings or caused any injuries.
The National Weather Service says the tornado was the first for the state in 2013. Meteorologist Cory Martin with the weather service tells the North Platte Telegraph that the tornado was spotted Friday evening about three miles west of Sutherland.
Martin says it then moved east toward Hershey.
The tornado accompanied a severe thunderstorm that dropped heavy rain and hail on the area.
