DES MOINES (AP) — Dubuque businessman Rod Blum says he'll run for the GOP nomination in the 1st Congressional District.
Blum announced his plans Wednesday. He lost the Republican nomination for the seat in 2012 to attorney Ben Lange.
The seat will be open in 2014 because Democratic Rep. Bruce Braley has announced his intent to seek the Senate seat being vacated by longtime Sen. Tom Harkin.
Blum said in his announcement that he will work to keep more tax dollars in Iowa.
Democratic State Rep. Pat Murphy has also announced plans to run for the seat. More candidates are expected.
The 1st District in northeast Iowa includes Waterloo, Dubuque and Cedar Rapids.
