COLORADO SPRINGS — It took 14 games, but UNO finally hit its first home run of the season.
Alex Mortensen’s solo shot sparked a four-run fifth inning as the University of Nebraska at Omaha beat Air Force 11-10 Wednesday.
Mortensen went 4 for 5, driving in three runs and scoring three times.
The Mavericks (5-9) went up 8-1 after the fifth before the Falcons (7-13) came back, taking a 9-8 lead in the seventh.
UNO responded with three runs in the eighth, totaling four hits and capitalizing on an Air Force error.
Catcher Collin Leif reached on a fielding error and left fielder Brett Bass singled to first before Mortensen’s two-run double made it 10-9.
A Caleb Palensky single to left advanced Mortensen to third, and Ryan Keele’s sacrifice fly gave the Mavs an 11-9 lead.
Dylan Casey (2-0) earned the win in relief, allowing one run on two hits in 13 inning. Josh Bullock picked up his third save of the season, giving up one run on two hits in two innings.
The Mavs’ Tyler Splichal finished 2 for 5 with a pair of runs scored, while redshirt freshman Connor Messinger was 2 for 5 with two RBIs. Keele scored twice and had two RBIs, and freshman Alex Schultz drove in two runs and scored once.

Mavs move weekend series
UNO’s three-game series against Northern Colorado at Werner Park this weekend has been moved to Jackson Field in Greeley, Colo.
The Mavericks will now play the Bears at 1 p.m. Thursday, followed by a noon doubleheader Friday.
