Expect the wind to be annoying over the lunch hour and during the commute home.
The same storm system responsible for blizzard conditions in the upper Midwest will whip up gusts in parts of Nebraska. But that should be the worst of it for the Omaha area.
Northwest winds are forecast to strengthen today across the region, then die down quickly after sunset.
The forecast for the Omaha-area calls for sustained winds ranging from 15 mph to 25 mph. Gusts could reach about 35 mph under sunny skies and a high near 40 degrees.
Lincoln and the rest of northeast Nebraska could be a little windier, with gusts approaching 40 mph.
In south-central and southwest Nebraska, winds aren't forecast to be as strong. But humidity levels are much lower, and fire warnings have been posted by the National Weather Service.
The strong winds are part of a larger system sweeping across the nation, delivering blizzard conditions to the upper Midwest.
