UNO defeats Iowa

WICHITA, Kan. — The UNO baseball team picked up its second straight win over a Big Ten opponent on Saturday, defeating Iowa 9-6.

Ryan Keele led the Mavs (3-7), going 4 for 5 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Collin Leif’s two-run single during UNO’s three-run third inning helped the Mavs break the game open.

UNO tacked on five more runs in the fourth inning. After loading the bases, Keele, Connor Messinger amd Caleb Palensky hit consecutive singles to drive in four runs. Brett Bass then drew a bases-loaded walk to put the Mavs up 9-2.

Reliever Kyler Brady (1-0) picked up the win, allowoing four runs — one earned — on four hits with two walks and a strikeout over two innings.

The teams continue their three-game series at 1 p.m. Sunday.
