COUNCIL BLUFFS — The city will buy a longtime motorcycle business on West Broadway to develop the property for future development.
The Council Bluffs City Council on Monday evening approved the $320,000 purchase of Paul's Motorcycle Service, located at 3339, 3341 and 3343 West Broadway.
The structures will be demolished so the site can be prepared for possible commercial use, said Don Gross, the department's executive director.
The property is near the former site of the Razzle Dazzle nightclub, which the city recently purchased and demolished for future development.
In other action, the council agreed to purchase a swimming pool property at 411 Spencer St. owned by the Cabana Swim Club. The private club could not raise enough funds to keep the pool from disrepair, Mayor Tom Hanafan said.
The council approved a purchase price of $35,000 with the intent of demolishing the pool and developing the site for homes, he said.
The council postponed until its March 25 meeting a public hearing on continued new infrastructure in the residential areas east of Bennett Avenue from Franklin Avenue to McPherson. The work is needed because the streets are up to 50 years old and in poor condition, according to the Public Works Department.
