Kids' poster contest
A young artist will be designing the official poster for the Senior Open.
Children in kindergarten through sixth grade and who live in Nebraska are eligible to enter the poster contest, which has an April 19 deadline.
A winner will be selected from each grade level, with a grand prize winner selected from those winners. He or she will receive a $5,000 contribution into a Nebraska Educational Savings Trust (NEST) Direct College Savings Plan account, donated by First National Bank of Omaha. The remaining six winners each will receive a $529 contribution from First National into a NEST account.
Winners will receive tickets for their parents or guardians, championship merchandise and framed copies of their posters autographed by 2012 Senior Open champion Roger Chapman. The grand-prize winner's design will be declared the official championship poster and sold in the merchandise pavilion during the week of the championship.
Among the contest rules: posters must be designed vertically, measuring 17 inches high by 11 inches wide; students may use any coloring medium; posters must be in full color — computer-generated artwork will not be considered for judging; posters must be original designs and must correctly include the following information:
“A MAJOR Moment for Nebraska”; 2013 U.S. Senior Open or 34th U.S. Senior Open; July 8-14, 2013; Omaha Country Club.

Rocco weighs in
At a Champions Tour stop earlier this season, new tour member Rocco Mediate was asked about this year's Senior Open:
Q. Have you ever played golf in Nebraska?
Mediate: I have not. I've driven through it. But if (USGA Executive Director) Mike Davis has a say, it will be a great place. He's one of my favorite guys in the whole world. Any U.S. Open, I don't care where it is, I like it, so you won't see me complaining about what happens there.
