CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — A state senator said he may run for U.S. Rep. Bruce Braley's congressional seat.
Sen. Steve Sodders, a Democrat from State Center, has formed an exploratory committee to look into the 1st Congressional District seat. The deputy sheriff said several people have asked him to consider a run.
The 1st District includes 20 northeast Iowa counties. Democratic State Rep. Pat Murphy of Dubuque has announced he will run. Cedar Rapids businessman Steve Rathje said he will run on the Republican side.
Braley, a four-term Democrat from Waterloo, announced last month that he will seek the U.S. Senate seat held for decades by Democrat Tom Harkin. — AP
