Frazier, Alberts, Crouch return to Hall ballot

Tommie Frazier and fellow former Nebraska stars Trev Alberts and Eric Crouch return to the 2013 Football Bowl Subdivision ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame.

The class will be announced May 7 in New York.

Frazier will be on the ballot for the third time, and being denied selection has drawn strong reaction each of the past two years, both locally and nationally. The quarterback was the Heisman Trophy runner-up and Johnny Unitas Award winner in 1995, and helped lead Nebraska to national championships in 1994 and '95.

Crouch won the 2001 Heisman and still holds the NCAA record for career rushing touchdowns by a quarterback (59). Crouch is on the ballot for the second time, along with three other Heisman winners (Vinny Testaverde, Ron Dayne, Danny Wuerffel).

Alberts was the recipient of the Butkus Award in 1993 and an NFF National Scholar-Athlete. Now the athletic director at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Alberts has been on the Hall of Fame ballot since 2008.

A total of 77 players and five coaches make up the ballot for the 2013 class, and the ballot was recently mailed to more than 12,000 National Football Foundation members and current hall of famers. Those selected will be inducted during a Dec. 10 dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York.

Will Shields was the last former Husker to go into the College Football Hall of Fame, inducted in 2011.

Husker turnovers: A slippery slope
Bo Pelini has coached 68 games at Nebraska. When NUís turnover margin is positive or even, the Huskers are 35-2. When they lose the turnover battle, theyíre 13-18. Why hasnít Nebraska joined the nationís elite? More than anything, itís turnovers.
