Jury section began today for the domestic abuse trial of former Omaha anchorman Michael Scott, who is accused of assaulting his girlfriend.
Prosecutor Julie Medina asked the prospective jurors -- a pool of 11 women and four men -- if they are familiar with Scott. A few recalled him from his days as a local TV personality whose career briefly included a stint with Entertainment Tonight.
Scott, 58, also made an unsuccessful bid for Congress. More recently, Scott was selling shoes at Younkers at Westroads Mall in Omaha.
He and his estranged girlfriend met in Los Angeles in the spring of 2011, and she moved to Omaha to be with him in November 2011, according to court documents.
A year later, she filed for a protection order, alleging that on Nov. 2, 2012, Scott choked her, hit her in the eye, ripped off two of her fake fingernails and told her “tonight was the night I was going to die like O.J. & Nicole.”
Scott later was arrested on misdemeanor domestic abuse.
