COUNCIL BLUFFS — Friends are organizing donations for Lori Vander Woude and her children following the death of her estranged husband, Mark, in a fire Monday.
Firefighters found his body on the second floor of the family’s home at 46 Norwood Drive on the east side of Council Bluffs.
Lori Vander Woude and the couple’s three children were not at home.
Mark Vander Woude was facing a misdemeanor charge of domestic assault at the time of his death.
Family friend Shelley Scott of Council Bluffs said she and other friends plan to go clothes shopping for Lori and the three Vander Woude children.
Scott has also organized a donation event from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Kerri’s Dance Studio, 1851 Madison Ave. in Council Bluffs. Donors are asked to bring cash or gift cards to grocery or department stores, because the family won’t have a lot of storage space in the coming months.
A donation account also has been set up at U.S. Bank for Lori Vander Woude. Dough Boyz restaurant, 501 S. 21st St. in the Bluffs, also is collecting donations.
