Mavericks drop season opener against Roadrunners

SAN ANTONIO — The University of Nebraska at Omaha opened its season Friday night at the UTSA Classic, falling 5-0 to host Texas-San Antonio at Wolff Stadium.

Daniel Rockett led the Roadrunners (6-3) at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a two-run home run in the fifth inning and a pair of runs scored. RJ Perucki added a three-run inside-the-park homer that got UTSA on the board in the third inning.

Michael Kraft (1-1) earned the win, allowing three hits in five innings with five strikeouts and one walk.

Maverick senior Matt Tew took the loss after he threw 423 innings, giving up four earned runs on four hits and one walk while striking out four.

Freshman Alex Schultz went 2 for 3 with a double in his collegiate debut for UNO (0-1).
