The UNO softball team takes to the road again with a trip to Jackson, Miss., for the Jackson State Tournament.
The Mavericks play Evansville at 3 p.m. and Jackson State at 5 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, UNO plays Evansville at 11 a.m. and Jackson State at 4. The Mavs will finish with a third meeting with Evansville at 11 a.m. Sunday.
The University of Nebraska at Omaha is off to a 9-1 start, its best start since 2003 when the Mavs began 19-1.
Senior third baseman Molly Negrete leads the Mavs with a .412 batting average. She has two doubles, one triple, one home run, eight RBIs and six runs scored.
First baseman Amber Lutmer and center fielder Allie Mathewson have combined for 10 of the Mavs’ 14 home runs. Mathewson has five home runs and 13 RBIs from the leadoff position to go with a .323 average. Lutmer has five home runs and a team-high 16 RBIs and is hitting .276.
The Mavericks have hit 14 home runs through 10 games.
