KEARNEY, Neb. — University of Nebraska at Kearney junior post Mike Dentlinger has been named a first-team academic All-American by college sports information directors.
The Millard North graduate, who has a 3.97 GPA in business administration, made the second team last season.
Dentlinger is the sixth Loper men’s player to earn academic All-American honors, following Tom Kropp (1974 and 1975), Tom Ritzdorf (1976 and 1978), Nick Svehla (2003), Nick Branting (2003 and 2004) and Dusty Jura (2006 and 2007).
Dentlinger is averaging 12.5 points and 4.9 rebounds per game while shooting a team-best 53 percent from the field and 79 percent at the free throw line. He needs just 48 more points to become the 40th player in school history to score 1,000 for a career.
UNK is at Washburn on Thursday and Missouri Western on Saturday.
