DALLAS — The Creighton baseball team used a seven-run sixth inning to earn a 15-6 win Saturday against Dallas Baptist.
The Jays (2-0) trailed 6-1 entering the sixth inning, but sent 11 batters to the plate and closed the inning with an 8-6 lead. Alex Staehely delivered the big hit, a three-run double that knotted the game at 6-6. Reagan Fowler’s RBI single gave Creighton the lead for good.
Creighton added four more runs in the seventh inning, getting run-scoring singles from Fowler, Michael Blatchford and Brad McKewon.
Four Bluejay relievers combined to limit Dallas Baptist to one run on three hits over the final 513 innings. Mark Lukowski (1-0) earned the win, allowing one run in 223 innings.
Eight Creighton starters finished with at least one hit, with McKewon, Mike Gerber, Staehely and Fowler posting multi-hit performances. Staehely finished with three hits, three runs scored and three RBIs.
The Jays will go for the sweep in the series finale at 1 p.m. Sunday.
