A section of the 144th Street Trail will temporarily close this spring while road crews work on the expansion of North 144th Street.
Omaha Public Works will close parts of the trail between West Maple Road and Franklin Street beginning March 1st. The trail is expected to reopen in November.
The project is a continuation of the first expansion, which was completed in November 2012, and expanded 144th Street from two to four lanes between West Dodge Road and Blondo Street said Tim O'Bryan, a contract engineer.
The second-phase will continue the four-lane expansion through the 144th Street and Corby Street intersection, O'Bryan said. The $7.6 million project will include new storm sewers, improvements to the bike trail, revamped sidewalks and traffic signals.
The entire 144th Street expansion will continue into July 2014, said O'Bryan.
Parts of the trail between West Dodge Expressway north to Franklin Street are now open and available for use.
A portion of the Big Papio Trail will close on Saturday, Feb. 16 through April 30 to replace a sewer line. The trail closure will occur between "Q" Street and Seymour Smith Park.
