Nebraska catcher Taylor Edwards was named the season’s first Big Ten player of the week on Monday, following a record-setting performance at the Hotel Encanto Invitational.
Edwards’ helped the Huskers finish the invitaional 5-0, and she had a school-record eight RBIs in Nebraska’s 13-4 win against Illinois Chicago on Saturday. Edwards hit a pair of grand slams in the game to become the first Husker to hit two grand slams in one game.
The weekly award was the second of Edwards’ career, and her first Big Ten honor. Edwards won Big 12 player of the week in February 2011.
