A 19-year-old Omaha man was charged Friday in Douglas County Court with shooting a woman multiple times.
William T. Harris allegedly shot Rebecca Earlywine, 26, in her apartment early Thursday at Southside Terrace near 29th and S Streets.
Harris was charged Friday with first-degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony. His bail was set at $75,000. His preliminary hearing was scheduled for Feb. 26.
A prosecuting attorney said Harris told a police officer immediately after the incident that he had been in an apartment in which someone had been shot.
Then Harris said he was “going to prison” and that he “hoped she didn't die.”
Police described Earlywine's condition Thursday as critical but stable after surgery at Creighton University Medical Center. She remained in critical condition Friday afternoon.
A defense lawyer said Harris is a South High School graduate who lives with his mother.
