An Omaha man is being investigated for manufacturing child pornography after an acquaintance found pornographic images involving a young girl.
The acquaintance discovered a memory card containing the images after Artemio Nieves-Leyva, 44, was arrested Dec. 16, 2012, in Pottawattamie County.
The acquaintance contacted Omaha police, who found 32 pornographic photos on the memory card, according to a police report. The images, which include Nieves-Leyva with a young girl, appeared to be taken last year, the report said.
Omaha police interviewed Nieves-Leyva in jail on Jan. 30. According to the police report, officers questioned him about the images and possible sexual assault of a child.
Court records do not show any charges in the case being filed in Nebraska against Nieves-Leyva.
Nieves-Leyva remained in the Pottawattamie County Jail, where he is being held on a federal immigration violation. He also is charged in Pottawattamie County with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and failure to have a valid license. — Robby Korth
